Devils on Horseback

I love these little devils, but haven't made them in years.  I am bringing them out of retirement for the Super Bowl.  Easy peasy...but very tasty.

Ingredients:
Blue cheese, crumbled
12 slices bacon, cut in half
24 pitted dates
24 toothpicks soaked in water

Instructions.  Soak toothpicks in water.  Meanwhile, make a slit in top of dates, and stuff  a small amount of cheese inside.  Wrap each cheese filled date in 1/2 slice of bacon, and secure with toothpick.  Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes, turning once, until bacon is browned.

    1. Thank you, my friend! It is a funny name, and I don't know why it's called that. I think it is an old English dish. There are also "Angels on Horseback", made the same way. Squeeze a little lemon juice on an oyster, wrap in 1/2 slice bacon, and cook the same way the Devils are cooked. :)

  4. Oh yummy! I make one with water chestnuts & bacon wrapped around & brown sugar. I need to post that one! I LOVE dates, so I would love these.
